(a) Who are called children?
➤ A young human being below the age of 14 years and also is in the developing process of emotions, physical, social etc. are called children.
(b) Why is there a specific age limit for them?
➤ There is a specific age limit for children because after 14 years of age they become legally eligible, adults and can be independent themselves.
(c) When did the UN pass the Convention on Rights of the Children? What is the age of children according to the convention?
➤ On 20 November 1989, the UN passed the convention on the rights of children. According to that convention, the age of children is conception to 18 years.
(d) What is right to protection?
➤ Right to Protection is a child's right to be protected from or against discrimination, violence, exploitation and any risks.
2. Write long answer to the following questions.
(a) 'Child shows the man as morning shows the day'. Describe it in your own sentence.
➤ The qualities shown by a child are often indications of what the child is going to be when he grows up to be a man. What the child is indicates what the man will be. All the physical, mental and social qualities found in an adult may have been passed on and learned from childhood. Therefore, to be the leader of the country, one has to be good from childhood.
(b) Why are the children compared with 'raw clay'? What should be done to give them the proper shape and size?
➤ The children are compared with raw clay because they are very innocent, delegate, weak-kneed and dependent. They cannot decide properly on their matters. People can mold the child into any shapes.
➤ Children should be protected and supported well by their family members, society, school etc. to give them the proper and expected shape.
(c) What is child right? Write the four categories of child right and explain them in brief.
➤ Child rights are the rights or provisions provided for the all-round development of children in accordance with the prevailing law.

(d) Why are the children taken as the pillars of a nation? How do they work as the foundation of a country?
➤ Children are taken as the pillar of a nation and bases of future of a country because the future of a country depends on the future of children. Children are the rock on which our future will be built, our greatest asset as a nation.They will be the leaders of our country, the creators of our national wealth and lead the nation to greater heights and newer worlds.
➤ The children of today will be adults of tomorrow. They grow and become leaders, administrators, planners, doctors, engineers, teachers, social workers, technicians, scientists, farmers etc. in future who will work as the foundation of a country.
(e) How is the condition of child right in Nepal? Explain with examples.
➤ The children in Nepal cover 35% of the total population. In Nepal, the constitution of Nepal 2072, part 3, article 39 has made special provision of child rights. Our country has provision four categories of child rights but they are not utilised properly because of poverty, lack of awareness, illiteracy, poor implementation and unstable politics. Still, children are suffering from discrimination and backwardness in educational, health, and other sectors.. People do not show good behaviour to orphans, helpless or handicapped children and also away from their rights. So a nation has necessary to promote, aware, provide, implement, establish a culture of child right.
